What We Believe

Our Doctrinal Convictions

Mt. Calvary Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist church that holds firmly to the historic, orthodox Christian faith as revealed in the King James Bible. The following statement summarizes the doctrines we believe, preach, and seek to live by. We invite you to read these convictions carefully, and to contact us with any questions.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

II Timothy 3:16, King James Bible

The Holy Scriptures

We believe the King James Bible is the verbally inspired, inerrant, and preserved Word of God for English-speaking people. It is the sole and final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

II Timothy 3:16-17 • II Peter 1:20-21 • Psalm 12:6-7

The Godhead

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each Person is fully God, co-equal and co-eternal, yet distinct in Person. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

Deuteronomy 6:4 • Matthew 28:19 • II Corinthians 13:14

The Person of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, born of a virgin, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

John 1:1, 14 • Isaiah 7:14 • I Corinthians 15:3-4

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates the believer at salvation, indwells every born-again Christian, and empowers the believer for holy living and service. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

John 16:7-11 • Romans 8:9 • Ephesians 5:18

The Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell through willful disobedience. As a result, all mankind is born in sin, spiritually dead, and in need of God's saving grace. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Quisque vehicula sapien vitae dui.

Genesis 1:26-27 • Genesis 3 • Romans 3:23 • Romans 5:12

Salvation by Grace Through Faith

We believe that salvation is entirely by the grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. It is not of works, merit, or sacrament. The repentant sinner who trusts Christ is justified, regenerated, and eternally secure in God's grace.

Ephesians 2:8-9 • John 3:16 • Romans 10:9-13 • John 10:28

The Local Church

We believe that the local church is a body of baptized believers who have voluntarily associated together for worship, fellowship, the preaching of the Word, the observance of the ordinances, and the furtherance of the Gospel. We are an independent Baptist church with no outside authority over the local congregation.

Matthew 16:18 • Acts 2:41-42 • I Timothy 3:15

Baptism & The Lord's Supper

We believe in two ordinances of the local church: believer's baptism by immersion, as a public declaration of salvation and identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection; and the Lord's Supper, observed as a memorial of Christ's sacrifice. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

Matthew 28:19-20 • Romans 6:3-5 • I Corinthians 11:23-26

Missions & Evangelism

We believe it is the duty and privilege of every believer and every local church to proclaim the Gospel to all the world. Mt. Calvary is a missions-hearted church that prayerfully and financially supports missionaries who carry the Gospel to unreached peoples. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

Matthew 28:18-20 • Acts 1:8 • Romans 10:14-15

Last Things

We believe in the personal, bodily return of Jesus Christ. The saved will enjoy eternal life with God; the unsaved will face eternal judgment. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Proin fermentum nisi vel lorem gravida.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18 • Revelation 20:11-15 • John 5:28-29

This statement is a summary of our core convictions. If you have questions about any of these doctrines, or would like to discuss the Christian faith further, we encourage you to contact Pastor Sykes directly. He would be glad to speak with you.
